Betrayed.
That’s how I felt waking up this morning remembering I had ‘lost’ an hour.
There’s no moving of the clock in St. Thomas so I haven’t had to deal with these shenanigans for almost 10 years now.
You wake up groggy and confused as you check every single clock in your home just to confirm what time it is.
It feels like an hour simply vanished into thin air at a time where you really need more hours, not less.
And while we can’t get it back (unless we pack our bags again), we can steal back control of our time.
Here are three things I’m doing this week to get my time back:
Audit those sneaky time thieves - I’m going to be hypervigilant about where my time is actually going. If we’re honest with ourselves, we didn’t just start feeling behind this morning but losing an hour definitely puts time smack dab in the front of our minds so we can make better decisions. So, where is that time slipping or dripping away (scrolling, binge-watching, overcommitting)? These time drains better watch out cause I’m keeping my eyes on them.
Protecting my mornings - I’m giving myself space to adjust my sunrise routine. Reading my bible, listening to worship and actually eating breakfast (that’s a bar) need to happen before I attempt anybody’s profit making (including my own). I’m putting my foot down on some non-negotiables that allow me to go through the day with energy and patience. Say it with me: a slow morning today sets the tone for the week. Amen.
Outsourcing where possible - remember that Michael Jackson song, “You are Not Alone”? Then why do we act like it? I’m out here assigning chores and tasks like it’s my job. Chief Assignment Officer, reporting for duty. But seriously, let your partner and kids take more off your piled high plate. I’m even delegating to AI cause I’m an equal opportunity kinda gal. So, let’s spread the wealth and have more time for what matters most.
Even though it felt like it, daylight savings time didn’t steal an hour. It just reminded us how valuable our time really is.
And for that, I am thankful.
So, what’s one way you’re reclaiming your time this week? Reply and let me know. I always respond!
