My favorite thing about this time of year is that we give ourselves permission to slow down and be thankful for all the good that exists in our lives today; the people that makes us laugh, the food that brings us comfort and the activities that bring us joy. Gratitude is the secret ingredient to living a healthier, happier and fulfilled life. Here are a few tips to help you stay present to the richness and beauty of life that surrounds you everyday.
Write
It can be so easy to look forward to a time where you'll have more and can do less but there was a time in your past where you prayed for what you have today. Take a few minutes to write down 3 things you love about this time of your life. Each day, look at your list and be reminded of how far you've come and celebrate where you are right now.
Eliminate
The average US smartphone user receives 46 app push notifications per day. Did you say "squirrel"? Notifications not only prevent you from being productive but they also make it difficult to be present to meaningful conversations and activities. Try going a week without notifications or at the very least reducing the amount that you receive whether you have an Iphone or an android and see if you notice a difference.
Learn
With Thanksgiving coming up, there can be quite a bit of stress and anxiety around the turkey especially if you've never done it before. What size do you need? When should you start to defrost it? How long will it take to cook? Well, butterball has a few useful calculators to help you learn how to bring a juicy and perfectly cooked turkey to the table. Now, you can spend that extra time creating memories not meltdowns.
Love
I'm currently loving Jennie Allen's book 'Get Out of Your Head' on audible. It's all about how God has given us all we need to stop the spiral of toxic thinking. If you love reading and have been considering signing up for audible, now is the time. They have a limited time offer up until December 31st of $5.95 per month for the first 4 months and then the price returns to $14.95 per month. I plan to sign up and cancel after the 4 months. Judge me all you want but a girl has financial goals so I'm working smarter not harder ;)
I hope you and your family have a wonderful rest of your November. I am so thankful for you and the opportunity to connect on the things that matter most to us. I pray that every day that passes, you see more of what you have and less of what is missing!
