I thought about sending a soft, sweet message this Mother's Day telling you to just relax and do absolutely nothing today while you're hopefully being pampered. But that message would be incomplete. I care about you too deeply to leave this bit out so here goes:
For too long, you have been playing small, letting fear dictate your choices. You've been living for others while slowly dimming your own brilliant light. NO MORE. It's time for you to start making the changes you have been avoiding for years and in some cases, decades…
Changes that look like…
Physical Changes:
• Lose that significant amount of weight you've been wanting to
• Adopt a consistent fitness routine that feels sustainable
• Cut off those unhealthy eating habits holding you back
• Overcome the physical ailments or chronic pain limiting you
Spirituality Changes:
Deepen your spiritual practice through prayer and meditation
Reconnect with a faith community by exploring different churches
Join a virtual or in-person bible study or small group
Open yourself up to experiencing more awe, wonder and connection
Financial Changes:
Get out of overwhelming debt once and for all
Build up your emergency fund to 6+ months' expenses
Start investing for retirement or your children's education
Downsize your lifestyle to align with your values
Emotional/Mental Changes:
• Start going to therapy to heal from past traumas you've buried
• Learn to set firm boundaries in your relationships
• Build the self-confidence and self-worth you deserve
• Find healthy coping mechanisms for the stress/anxiety you face
Career Changes:
• Go back to school or get that new certification advancing your career
• Switch to a career you are truly passionate about
• Ask for the promotion or raise you've earned
• Start your own business or side hustle you've been dreaming of
Relationship Changes:
• Leave that unhealthy or abusive relationship weighing you down
• Cut off contact with the toxic family members hurting you
• Demand more respect and equity from the partner you love
• Restore broken relationships with loved ones you've missed
Personal Growth Changes:
• Get out of your comfort zone more like you know you should
• Learn a completely new skill like public speaking
• Travel alone or move somewhere new you're being called to
• Share your beautiful art or poems with the world
What are my next steps?
It's time to stand in your power as the amazing, capable, brilliant woman you are. It's time to quit making excuses and go after those dreams patiently waiting. It's time to show your children what it means to live authentically and bravely.
As a mother, you cannot fully show up for loved ones while abandoning yourself. You cannot nurture others while neglecting your own needs and dreams.
So let this Mother's Day be a rebirth - a shedding of old fears, outdated narratives, and the "I'll do it one days." Now is your time to boldly become who you were born to be.
