I almost deleted it.
Three times, actually.
The lighting was off. The edits were choppy.
And to be honest, it just didn’t feel like the quality of content I usually strive for.
But something in me said, “No. Leave it. Hit publish.”
And I’m glad I did.
Because this imperfect little video represents something I’ve been trying to choose more often lately:
Sharing value over perfection.
Last year, I took a break from YouTube.
Not because I didn’t love it anymore but because it just felt…heavy.
Too many late nights, too much overthinking, and too many questions like:
What do I even post? Does this help anyone? Is this worth the time and energy?
So I stopped.
And for a while, I thought maybe I was done for good.
But something surprising happened in the year I stopped posting.
I started missing it.
Not the production.
Not the pressure.
But the purpose.
Helping people.
That’s it.
That’s all I’ve ever wanted to do.
Whether it’s telling everyone I see that Bing cherries are 99 cents a pound at our local store
or recommending an amazing book to teach your kid how to read in 15 minutes a day.
I missed that.
YouTube wasn’t the problem. My approach was.
So I started looking for a better way. A simpler way.
Something that could work with my real life.
(If you’ve been around here a while, you know systems are my jam.)
I found a program that gives me a clear structure and asks me to just show up one hour a day, five days a week.
That’s it.
Three weeks in, and I can already tell this is what I needed.
Not just the strategy but the container.
Something to hold me accountable, to make me focus on what matters, and to remind me why I started.
Right now, my goal is to post a video every other week.
They’re not perfect.
Honestly, they’re kind of awful.
But I’m oddly at peace with it.
Because every time I hit publish, even on the ones I want to hide, I’m learning something.
And when I notice what’s been holding me back (whether it’s a fear or just a messy habit),
I get to respond with a reframe, a prayer, or a simple system that helps me move forward.
So yeah, this video I almost didn’t share?
I’m actually kind of proud of it.
Not because it’s good.
But because it’s done.
Because I didn’t let perfectionism win this round.
And if you’ve been sitting on something lately
a blog post, a podcast, a project you feel called to start,
but it’s not “ready” or you’re not “ready”...
Can I just say: maybe it’s time.
Maybe what you need isn’t more hours or clarity or prep.
Maybe you just need structure.
Something to help you focus, tune out the noise, and move.
That’s what I’ve been helping other women do lately through 90 minute deep-dive sessions where we zoom in on one thing that’s been holding them back and finally create a system that fits their life.
If you’re in that in-between space right now, trying to figure out how to move something forward, send me a message (melissakarenlowe@gmail.com). I’d love to support you.
You don’t have to figure it all out on your own.
And you definitely don’t have to wait until it’s perfect.
Let’s build something that actually works…for you.
Another thought provoking article. You miss your calling - maybe you were meant to publish books to inspire young women 😉
Awesome!!! I'm looking forward to your videos!
