I don’t know about you but my October felt like a LOT (fundraising, costumes, trunk or treats, school events, journaling workshops, just to name a few). I found myself on too many occasions saying things like:
I just gotta make it to Friday.
After this big push, I’m going to find some time to rest.
I’ll get to bed early tomorrow night.
Thank goodness for journaling and reflection because I can clearly see that I’ve taken on too much. So, to ensure I don’t lose my mind this holiday season, I’m committed to having a different November. I’m still a working mom who is planning a journal launch and a women’s intimacy retreat in December but if I use my time wisely and keep my boundaries intact, I should be able to restore some balance back into my world.
So, I’m starting the NO-vember challenge. It’s quite simple. You make a list of things you’re going to say NO to in November. Your list will look different than mine but hopefully, this inspires you to create time and energy for yourself, your loved ones and whatever fills your cup. Let’s go into December with clear minds, full hearts and all the energy. Please let me know in the comments at least one thing you’re saying NO to next month. You might just inspire another mama and we love that around here!
10 Things I’m Saying NO to in NO-vember
Being so rigid with my newsletter and social media. Inspiration is the goal and I forgot that. I know this newsletter doesn’t follow the normal format so I hope you’ll give me grace as I come to you authentically and creatively without so many rules.
No school fundraisers in November. I did it in October and I’ll do some again in 2024 but a girl needs a break.
Making holiday school treats from scratch. I’m signing up for store bought items. Maybe I’ll even provide paper plates and napkins. Oh, the liberation!
Holiday cards. Every year I put pressure on myself to organize it and every year I feel guilty for not having done it. This year I will release myself from the obligation completely.
Making everything for Thanksgiving. If we have friends over, I will make it a potluck event to share the load. I’m so excited just typing this!
Birthday parties and events we aren’t excited about. When we attend shindigs out of necessity, we are bringing blah energy with us. I only want to bring pure joy and positive energy wherever I go.
Trying to capture instagram-worthy photos. Instead I will focus on taking photos of moments I want to remember because of how they make me feel regardless of how imperfect they look to others.
Social media for the first hour of my day. Starting my day off focused on God, family and reflection motivates me to continue to the the things that make me feel proud the entire day.
Buying things ONLY because they are on Black Friday sale. If it’s something I intended on buying, I’ll check the sale but if it’s not on my list, I won’t be purchasing it (no matter how cute it is).
Staying up late to finish work or business projects. I’m exhausted the next day, not in the greatest mood and don’t produce great quality work. Just writing this makes me question why I think staying up late is a good idea in the first place.
I don’t know about you but I’m so looking forward to NO-vember already. My mind is already churning to come up with more things to say no to. We’re not turning into grinches, by any means, we’re just identifying what our priorities are and ensuring we have energy to focus on them intentionally and joyfully.
Don’t forget to leave at least one thing you’re going to say NO to in NO-vember in the comments.
Have so much fun with this “challenge”. Cheers to more of what matters!

You must know that I absolutely love everything this challenge is giving! Since I've already said "no" to Christmas cards for the past 3 years *sigh*, I think I'll add a loud and resounding "no" to adding any new, recurring activity this month since fall sports just ended and is giving me the break I deserve!
